My great grandfather Akira Aoyama was an engineer on massive projects in the early 20th century. Over the course of his life he coined a saying “I live by the river, I die by the river”.
From this family saying came my approach to carpentry and life. Adaptation to a structure, improvisation in one’s work, continuity of design, and embracing change are paramount in my philosophy of building and woodworking.
I have been blessed to build and create all over this country and overseas. I’ve built houses for people with dirt floors, and cabinets for people with Picassos. My experiences at both ends of the spectrum have brought me back to my hometown enriched with a passion for carpentry and the creation of functional beauty.
I hope to be able to share this passion with you.
